Restaurants in Ayrshire

The rich greens of Ayrshire's pastures, the Clyde coast with the backdrop of the mountainous Isle of Arran all set the scene for a county packed with history, leisure activities and fine restaurants.

Ayr is the largest town and the reputed birthplace of Robert the Bruce. To the north is Largs, a yachting town and ferry point to the islands in the Firth of Clyde. Open golf has its origins in Ayrshire with famous courses at Turnberry, Troon and Prestwick.

Braidwoods - Dalry
Out in the sticks, two small whitewashed cottages set the scene for one of Scotland's real top notch restaurants; Braidwoods has been going strong for a dozen years or so and continues to have a loyal following

The Sorn Inn - Mauchline
Dating back some 200 years, the inn's reputation now rests largely with its restaurant, where chef Craig Grant works to regularly changing modern menus based around seasonal Scottish produce

Glenapp Castle - Ballantrae
Built in the 1870s for the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire, this mighty castle is baronial exuberance personified, with turrets, castellated walls and glorious vistas overlooking the Irish Sea and Ailsa Craig
