Restaurants in Hampshire

The New Forest's recently acquired status as a National Park has given a boost to the legions of restaurants, pubs and teashops that provide sustenance for thousands of visitors each year.

Venison, feathered game and fungi are just some of its by-products, which are eagerly snapped up by kitchens across the county.

Hampshire's coastline also provides seafood aplenty, and the Test is perhaps the most famous trout river in the land. Hampshire also has one curious sideline, watercress, while the Isle of Wight is now famous for garlic.

Features

JSW - Petersfield
What impresses people about JSW's cooking is his unadorned contemporary approach and keen eye for fine seasonal ingredients - be it fish from the Hampshire day boats or prime stuff from Rungis market in Paris

Lainston House - Winchester
A long winding drive through acres of Hampshire parkland leads the way to this opulent seventeenth-century country mansion: it's an eminently peaceful retreat, out in the country just a few miles from Winchester

The Greyhound - Stockbridge
An enviable setting by the banks of the River Test has always been one of the Greyhound's great attributes. It still clings to its heritage as an old-world pub with an inglenook, but it's the food which brings in the crowds

Vatika - Wickham
Atul Kocchar of Michelin-starred Benares in Mayfair has headed south to the Hampshire countryside for his second venture - a fascinating restaurant in the beguiling surroundings of Wickham Vineyard
