Review on La Lombarda Restaurant
Founded in 1922, La Lombarda is Aberdeen's oldest surviving restaurant and the city's longest-running Italian. For many years it was owned by an Italian family, but a recent change of ownership has resulted in a few changes.
The original part is cosy, dimly lit and intimate with small tables. Some bright new areas have been added on, although the classic red, white and green colours, terracotta ornaments and snatches of opera playing in the background are unchanged. The place also has a new function room called Valentino's.
The menu is a mix of old-school trattoria favourites with a few bistro ideas and Continental dishes for good measure. If you are a fan of minestrone, pizzeta, lasagne or chicken cacciatore, this is the place to go.
There are also daily fish specials, courtesy of Aberdeen's market, plus some well-tried desserts like sticky toffee pudding and lemon brûlée. Good-value Italian wines offer the prospect of affordable quaffing.
