Review on The Ginger Fox
From the same stable as the Gingerman Restaurant and the Ginger Pig pub in Brighton, The Ginger Fox at Albourne is a cracking country hostelry that ticks all the boxes - whether you are looking for scenery, a kid-friendly attitude, fine local ales and wines or exemplary modern food.
The thatched roof (compete with a fox effigy) augurs well, and the interior is pleasingly tricked out with colourful furnishings, wood and stone floors and country trappings. The kitchen sources locally and the results are exciting without taxing the palate too much.
Starters of spinach and duck egg tart or oxtail and tongue with lentils and pickled carrots could give way to char-grilled Redlands Farm ribeye with dripping chips, grilled whole Rye Bay plaice with spinach and tomato hollandaise or something exotic such as roast pork belly with turmeric and ginger, bean and coconut stir fry. After that, how about peach bavarois with peach and basil sorbet and peach salad for a summery finish?
