Review on Regatta

A fixture of the Aldeburgh scene since 1992, Regatta is a family-friendly place with a laid-back feel and the emphasis on locally procured and home-smoked ingredients served without fuss.

Given the restaurant's proximity to the sea, it's no surprise that the menu majors in spanking fresh fish: the day's haul is chalked up on blackboards (anything from grilled whole sea bass to tempura of sole with saffron fricassee). The regular menu also includes a choice of non-fish alternatives along the lines of smoked chicken terrine with onion chutney, confit of lamb with Puy lentil sauce and grilled Mediterranean vegetables with feta cheese. For afters, try banana and cinnamon bread-and-butter pudding or homemade Malteser ice cream.

Throughout the year Regatta stages various theme weeks incorporating seasonal produce such as asparagus or game from surrounding estates. There are also occasional gourmet evenings, perhaps highlighting a special cuisine or ingredient.
