Review on The Restaurant & Bar at Aztec Hotel & Spa
Conveniently situated just off the M4/M5 a few miles from Bristol city centre, the purpose-built Aztec Hotel & Spa is a fascinating amalgam of old and new: stone-flagged floors and stunning wooden beams fashioned from old ships' timbers blend easily with brightly coloured rugs, contemporary artwork and modern fittings.
Formal meals are served in The Restaurant & Bar, which opens out onto a sheltered patio with splendid views of the hotel's landscaped grounds. The kitchen offers a mix of British dishes with a smattering of ideas from across the globe. Native ingredients show up well in Cornish crab linguine, honey-roast belly of Gloucestershire pork with Bramley apple sauce, and organic chicken with caramelised onion, thyme and bacon tart. Lamb hot pot adds an even more traditional note, and desserts embrace everything from blackberry and apple crumble to warm pecan pie with Mascarpone cream.
If you fancy something more casual, make a beeline for Danby's Bar or enjoy a pint and a bar lunch in the hotel's own Black Sheep pub.
