Review on The Treehouse Restaurant
The Alnwick Garden is a world-class horticultural enterprise and charity dedicated to delivering all kinds of programmes and activities. It's also a great place if you fancy something to eat: daytime visitors can make use of the Pavilion and Visitor Centre for morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon teas, but the serious eating takes place three evenings a week in the Treehouse.
This remarkable place is a natural theatre with a tree growing through the dining room and specially crafted screens fashioned from fallen branches. The lights are dim, the mood is magical. Produce from the garden and the nearby region is used to telling effect for a short menu that might take in roast leg of organic lamb with Heritage potatoes and redcurrant jus, roasted butternut squash with wild rice and coriander crème fraîche, and baked Dover sole with Shetland Black chips, lemon and herb mayo. To finish, try Treehouse lemon posset with butter shortbread fingers or Northumbrian cheeses with wheat wafers.
