Review on The Pheasant

A local favourite hereabouts, the Pheasant has been designed and furnished in dramatic Gothic style, complete with stained glass panels, peat fires and hunting theme murals. Sister to the Bar Retro (formerly the Plough Inn) at Hillsborough, it naturally puts the emphasis on food - so expect plenty of seafood and local game on offer.

The restaurant menu ranges far and wide, taking in the likes of Larchfield Estate pheasant tempura and ponzu-dressed Asian salad, lemon chicken with sweet potato and vegetable lasagne, and medallions of suckling pig with chorizo, artichokes and balsamic-roast tomatoes. There are also retro classics like prawn cocktail, plus a full quota of grills.

Pub grub is served throughout the day in the traditional bar and snug (think nachos, burgers, salads and ciabattas); there's also live music on Fridays.
