Review on Woodhill House

Set in its own grounds overlooking the Donegal Highlands, John and Nancy Yates' secluded hotel is a handy basecamp for visitors to the nearby heritage town of Ardara (famous as a weaving and knitwear centre). The house itself dates back to the seventeenth century and was once home to Ireland's last commercial whaling family.

The kitchen garners home-grown and local produce for traditional French-biased menus involving fresh Killybegs seafood, Donegal mountain lamb, wild salmon and trout from the Owenea River, plus pickings from the hotel's walled garden.
