Review on The Dining Room
Ashbourne's Dining Room restaurant is a delightful unassuming gem in the heart of this bustling Derbyshire village. Housed in a seventeenth-century building, the restaurant makes a virtue of cosy intimacy.
The kitchen prides itself on sourcing fresh local ingredients, which provide the basis for its regularly changing menu. You might begin with an eclectic starter of - say - ravioli of Hartington white Stilton and oregano with jamon negra, hazelnut foam, roasted hazelnuts, pickled mushrooms and white truffle oil, ahead of roast aged Derbyshire beef with braised short rib spring roll, buttered spring onions, mushrooms, Madeira and balsamic syrup.
Desserts are equally intricate creations such as brandy-preserved Victoria plums with star anise crème brûlée, apple sorbet, oatmeal and syrup biscuits. Nine-course tasting menus are a special treat, and the wine list is a well chosen international slate.
