Review on Del Mercato
Acclaimed London restaurateur Claudio Pulze has opened Del Mercato, an exciting wine bar, trattoria, bakery and Italian restaurant adjacent to Borough Market and Vinopolis. The first floor restaurant has has been kitted out in contemporary style with exposed brickwork and smartly laid tables set against leather banquette seating.
The restaurant works to a modern menu showcasing regional Italian food such as warm mackerel and violina pumpkin in saor, grilled polenta and beetroot cream or beef tartare, mixed salad, parmesan shavings and toasted bread amongst the starters. Main courses usher in tagliolini with crab meat, spring onions, red sweet chilli and lime or boneless grilled quail with soft polenta, mixed mushrooms and roasted chestnuts. To conclude there are tempting desserts in the shape of warm fig and almond tart with cinnamon ice cream and acetaia malpighi figue balsamic or pear poached in red wine with vanilla panna cotta and Amaretto biscuit crumble. There's also a very good selection of artisanal Italian cheeses on offer as well as an excellent wine list to accompany the dishes.
