Review on Sonny's Kitchen
A bastion of the south-west London scene for many years, the restaurant has been re-launched as Sonny's Kitchen by its owner Rebecca Mascarenhas in partnership with Michelin starred head chef, Phil Howard of The Square in Mayfair. It now sports a smart contemporary interior designed by LSM featuring a stunning terrazzo fireplace by Scottish sculptor Bruce McLean, as well as a wonderful and regularly changing display of drawings and paintings from well-known artists adorning the walls.
Howard has appointed James Holah to oversee the kitchen, having previously worked closely with him at The Square, as well as cooking with John Williams at The Ritz. This charming family friendly restaurant is keen to use the best seasonal ingredients supplied by artisan food producers for its dishes. You can expect starters such as linguine with crab, chilli and parsley or terrine of venison, grouse and mallard with green peppercorns, prunes sk chutney and toast. Main courses take in pan fried fillet of stone bass with chestnut gnocchi, butternut squash and chanterelles or braised short rib of beet with smoked mashed potatoes and caramelised root vegetables. To finish there are tempting desserts offering a lovely mix of flavours as in clementine and pomegranate jelly with hibiscus, or hot chocolate fondant with burnt orange purée and milk ice cream.
Accompanying the menu is a well conceived wine list knowledgeable garnered from vintners in the best growing regions of the world. Next to the restaurant is their foodstore offering a whole array of fabulous products.
