Review on Blue Bell Inn
A hanging blue bell serves as the inn sign for this delightful whitewashed village pub in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Inside, it's a traditional charmer, with real ales on tap, chintzy curtains, comfortable armchairs to relax in and blackboards above the fireplace spelling out the menu of upbeat, seasonal food.
The kitchen uses Lincolnshire Red beef, buys fish from Grimsby and takes advantage of as much local produce as possible for a repertoire that could take in anything from filled ciabattas (lunchtimes only) to saddle of venison with Lincoln Blue cheese, parsnip purée and redcurrant sauce. In between, expect confit of duck with Puy lentils, thyme and chorizo sauce, roast partridge on truffle mash, and pumpkin-crusted cod with white wine sauce. To finish, try chocolate truffle torte, homely steamed sponge pudding with custard or warm chocolate brownie with pistachio ice cream. Wine buffs should look out for the monthly specials on the keenly priced list.
