Review on Ginger Bistro
The Ginger Bistro is an award winning restaurant located on Hope Street, just off the main A1 Great Victoria Street in Belfast. Chef proprietor is Simon McCance who opened up his spacious bistro in 2004 after working as Head Chef at the well-regarded Nick's Warehouse. With a relaxed and friendly ambience, the restaurant has a fashionably eclectic décor with its smart wooden tables set on mahogany flooring, Moroccan and South East Asian inspired lighting and local artwork adorning the walls adding further interest.
Local cuisine is top of the agenda and the kitchen employs high-quality ingredients for menus that change regularly. Typically you might find starters of Thai seasoned crab cakes served with a fennel and carrot salad and a sweet and sour cucumber and carrot dip or warm salad of tea smoked duck with mango, mouli and baby gem. Main courses usher in herb stuffed free range chicken breast with fondant potatoes and a button mushroom, baby onion and cider cream or pan roasted fillet of hake with oyster mushroom and brown shrimp butter and potato and butterbean gratin on the side. To finish there's an array of tempting desserts such as "Pears & Cream" in a Glass, Champagne jelly, poached pears with rich vanilla custard and baby meringues or banana tarte tatin paired with vanilla ice cream and crème anglaise.
Service is warm and attentive and the well-chosen wine list supports the food admirably.
