Review on Malone Lodge, Knife & Fork
A former winner of the 'Belfast Hotel of the Year' award (not to mention Northern Ireland's 'Wedding Venue of the Year'), Malone Lodge is an imposing nineteenth-century edifice situated in the verdant suburbs of the Queen's Quarter that was totally refurbished in 2013.
As a four-star boutique townhouse, it boasts all manner of facilities from a fully equipped gym and sauna to high-tech conference suites. Dining now takes place in the Knife and Fork, Grill and Deli which is adjacent to the hotel and has its own entrance. Inside, the restaurant has a smart décor with polished wood tables and some banquette style seating, overlooked by the theatre of the open kitchen.
Ingredients are carefully sourced from local suppliers with seasonal menus offering dishes in the shape of East Coast mussels cooked in Guinness cream and served with hand crafted bread shot or pulled pork spring rolls with apple and celeriac slaw and their own Knife & Fork BBQ sauce, amongst the starters. Main courses embrace roasted sea bass paired with brown shrimp chowder, samphire and tempura mussels or carnivores might opt for a juicy fillet steak with peppered marrow, truffle mash and celeriac and blue cheese crumble.
