Review on Il Convivio
Il Convivio is swish and sleek, a well-liked Belgravia restaurant offering alfresco dining all year round, thanks to a conservatory with wood decking and a retractable electric roof. Otherwise, cedar panels and limestone also set the tone in the spacious red-walled dining dining room, which is reached down a few steps.
The food is modern Italian, and the seasonal menu might begin with - perhaps - warm salad of baby squid with chilled Cantaloupe melon soup or beef carpaccio with celery and basil-scented virgin olive oil. Starchy offerings are always intriguing - risotto with 'spiky artichokes' and Italian sausage ragù or Burrata cheese agnollotti with ceps, for example - and main courses might bring on baby turbot steamed with Mascarpone and clam sauce or confit of crispy pork belly with cherries marinated in Cabernet Sauvignon.
Desserts are equally inviting ideas like bergamot and almond tartlet with meringue and chicory granita, and it's worth saving room for the assortment of organic Italian cheeses. Italy steals the show on the carefully assembled wine list.
