Review on Pont St at The Hari Hotel
In the space formerly occupied by Mark Hix, the boutique Hari Hotel in the heart of Belgravia, launched its seafood restaurant, Pont St in September 2013. The 80 cover restaurant has its own entrance on Pont Street, hence the name and is situated just off the hotel lobby. The interior has been transformed by acclaimed British designer Tara Bernerd with charcoal emerald velvet banquets and leather chairs, set against tables with studded dark mahogany or white marble on a geometric patterned flooring. Walls lined with smoked glass mirrors and an interesting collection of artwork from celebrated British artists such as Natasha Law and Adam Bricusse, set the scene in the elegant restaurant.
Donning the whites in the kitchen is Executive Chef Sophie Michell, cookery author, TV chef and private cook to celebrities, who has climbed the culinary ladder in some of London's finest Michelin-starred restaurants, including The Greenhouse in Mayfair and The Lanesborough in Hyde Park. Sophie showcases a light and healthy approach in her menu, which takes inspiration from her time in California, Australia and the Mediterranean.
Typically you might begin with diver caught scallops, five spice, fennel puree and charred orange or chicken broth, shelled broad beans and peas, celeriac and carrots. Main courses take in lobster tagliatelle with cherry tomatoes and bisque or pan-fried sea trout, courgettes, charred leeks and sauce vierge. Away from the sea, the kitchen can also offer miso glazed lamb chops, miso glaze and cucumber salad or onglet steak served with truffle mash and caramelised onions. Dessert are equally inviting ideas like floating islands, maple syrup, custard, pink praline and violets or banana crème, custard, bourbon whipped cream, sugar burnt banana and salted caramel ice cream.
