Review on Kinnaree Thai Restaurant
Great waterfront views are a big plus at this exciting new Thai restaurant in Birmingham's highly fashionably canalside development. Kinnaree takes its name from an enchanting mythical creature – half-woman, half-swan – and the dining room is suitably evocative, with pretty artefacts and ornaments dotted around, a long model boat dominating the scene and waitresses dressed in flowing silk garments.
The wide-ranging 100-dish menu covers all major aspects of the cuisine, from soups and salads to stir-fries, curries and noodles. In particular, look for po tak (a spicy seafood broth served in a special Thai pot), ped makarm (roast duck marinated in tamarind sauce with shallots and chillies) and char-grilled pork with oyster sauce, soy and sesame oil laced with Thai whisky. There's an excellent choice for vegetarians and it's also worth noting the good-value set menus and banquets.
