Review on Royal Hotel Bridge of Allan, Windows Restaurant
A splendid example of baronial Scottish architecture, the Royal Hotel is right in the centre of Bridge of Allan, within easy reach of Stirling. Not surprisingly it is a convenient and highly popular venue for business, weddings, conferences and the like.
The Windows Restaurant is the focal point for those wanting to eat, and it offers imaginative modern food in a civilised setting of subdued lights and stylish furniture. Diners can look forward to a broad mix of dishes from Caesar salad and braised lamb shank with rosemary jus to a warm cassoulet of ham hock and black pudding or baked cod with a rarebit crust.
Daily specials focus on the standards - omelette Arnold Bennett, cottage pie, beef Wellington - and the char-grill gets plenty of use. To finish, look for the 'grand dessert' comprising a mini pannacotta, crème brûlée, lemon tart and chocolate mousse. The food is complemented by a well-spread 100-bin wine list, including a dozen by the glass.
