Review on Goldbrick House
A vast venue spread over five levels of two Georgian townhouses and a Victorian factory, Goldbrick House is a ritzy mix of café bar, Champagne/cocktail lounge and two-tier restaurant, with private dining rooms and a terrace added to the mix. Inside, it feels as cool and luxurious as a gentlemen's club with glittering chandeliers, yellow retro wallpaper, leather sofas and lots of nooks and crannies adding a touch of seclusion.
Seasonal menus have a strong Mediterranean slant, witness panzanella, pasta (say, tagliatelle with braised quail and walnut pesto) and chorizo-stuffed saddle of rabbit with sweet potato gratin and primo cabbage. Seared duck breast with braised pak choi and honey with chilli-glazed turnips strikes a more faraway note, while desserts might include sweet cherry filo parcels with almond sorbet.
A Goldbrick 'classic' menu promotes customers' favourites including rare roast peppered beef with parsley salad and grated egg, beef Wellington with celeriac purée, and tiramisu. Weekday lunches bring in the business crowd and Sunday brunch is a sure-fire hit. Classy wines, too.
