Review on Roman Camp Country House Hotel
This warm and inviting small hotel nestles in 20 acres of manicured gardens on the banks of the river Teith in the heart of the Trossachs; it has a home-from-home feeling and a relaxing atmosphere. High levels of comfort and service follow through into the Oval Restaurant which is a recent extension to the house. Sophisticated décor with subtle lighting, crisp white table linen dressed with fine silverware, crystal and candelabra, it sets the scene for some top notch cuisine.
The kitchen draws on local markets for seasonal ingredients for its daily changing menus. Lunch sees a short set menu with two or three choices for each course while dinner has the choice of a la carte or the recommended tasting menu.
Kicking off with canapés in the Drawing Room a typical meal could follow the lines of roast calf sweetbread with shallot confit and thyme fumet; plum tomato consommé with goats' cheese and basil tortellini; turbot with truffled langoustine potatoes and red wine reduction and rounding off with three granny smith desserts.
