Review on Beluga Café
Perfectly located just across the bridge from Canary Wharf, this converted 200-year-old listed warehouse is a breath of independent fresh air among the legions of chain restaurants in the neighbourhood. It has been glamorously out in shades of turquoise and black, with 1930s features, a curved marble and granite bar, oyster-shaped tables and a vast waterside terrace for al fresco meals and barbecues.
Oysters, Champagne and - of course - caviar are the mainstays, but the kitchen serves up all sorts of market-fresh seafood and shellfish platters to an eager and hungry crowd. Salads, sandwiches, bagels, mezze and a few desserts like sticky toffee pudding complete the main menu.
Beluga Café is also renowned for its 'stonegrills' - cook your own food on a sizzling hot rock brought to the table: choose from steaks, tiger prawns, green Thai chicken, rack of lamb or a mighty mixed grill which contains a bit of everything. Apart from copious Champagnes, the drinks list extends to heavy-duty cocktails and some carefully chosen global wines.
