Review on Tom's Kitchen
Following the success of Tom's Kitchen in Somerset House and Chelsea, Michelin starred chef Tom Aikens has opened a third branch at Westferry Circus in Canary Wharf. Occupying the former headquarters of the Reader's Digest building that stands in the shadow of Credit Suisse, the restaurant, bar and deli has entrances on both Westferry Circus and Columbus Courtyard. Tom's Kitchen is a capacious all-day venue that eschews clean lines with a classic brasserie inspired décor featuring a central bar with polished metal top, leather banquette seating, glazed tiling, chevron oak and mirrors adorning the walls. There is also a large outdoor terrace which is proving to be very popular for post-work drinks during the summer months.
The kitchen maintains a strong commitment to the sourcing of first-class seasonal ingredients for their classic British comfort food favourites and work closely with British growers and farmers to ensure this. Kicking off with breakfast through to lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, not forgetting their fabulous brunch served at the weekends. Typically you might begin with chicken liver and foie gras parfait paired with brioche and shallot chutney before a main course of shepherd's pie, melted cheese and mixed leaves or fish cakes, buttered spinach and tomato sauce. When it comes to desserts you might see milk chocolate mousse profiteroles and flaked almonds or apple and Calvados tart, crumble topping and maple syrup ice cream.
The well-considered wine list offers ample choice across the range with regard to price and grape variety, together with a cocktail menu and local beers by The Redchurch Brewery.
