Review on The Labworth

Designed and built in the 1930s by a firm with links to the Sydney Opera House, the Labworth is a striking Grade II-listed building that dominates Canvey Island and provides a marvellous vantage point for uninterrupted views of the Thames estuary.

Billed as a restaurant and beach bistro, this distinctively shaped, island oasis comes complete with modernist features, big rectangular windows and a cylindrical bar topped with a water feature. Breakfasts and light lunches are served in the bistro, when the menu ranges from 'full English' to pasta, salads, fish and chips and other family favourites.

The restaurant comes into its own during the evening, when the kitchen ups its game for wide-ranging international favourites along the lines of garlic mushroom mille-feuille, poached salmon with spinach and cheese sauce, roast rack of lamb and banoffee Pavlova.

Lovely Meal at Canvey Island, Essex

We enjoyed a special anniversary meal, superbly cooked and served with a smile. Had to wait a while for a table for four, due to popularity of this restaurant, but the sun was shining outside and we didn't mind building up an appetite! Loved the history of the place, too, so will be writing about it in my social media. The view is great, too. www.sylviakent.blogspot.com

Breakfast and evening meals, both a joy to have!

My friends and I regularly visit the Café part of the Labworth for a superb breakfast very reasonably priced. We have also sampled the delicious culinary delights of the upstairs restaurant. We travel from Southend and Wickford to eat here because it's worth it. It is one of the best restaurants in Essex.

My only criticism is it is not at all disabled friendly.
