Review on Magees Bistro
Close to the medieval heart of Carlingford, with the ancient Mint and Tholsel (gate tower) just a stroll away, Magees is noted for its animated buzz, friendly local service and well-crafted food. It's an easy-going, upbeat venue that opens right through the day for snacks and light dishes such as homemade burgers, goats' cheese crostini and shellfish platters.
Local seafood from Carlingford Bay and Kilkeel also figures strongly in the evening, when the menu features more ambitious dishes such as dill fishcakes with mango salsa and sour cream, salmon in puff pastry with leeks and tarragon sauce, or fillet of brill stuffed with fish mousse.
Away from the sea, there are possibilities such as duck spring rolls, roast fillet of beef with braised cabbage and béarnaise sauce, and baked stuffed chicken suprême with rösti and mushroom sauce. To finish, consider vanilla pannacotta with orange jelly or sticky toffee pudding with warm toffee sauce.
