Review on The Lobster Pot
Ciaran and Anne Hearne's landmark pub/restaurant is a cosy, cottagey place, ideally located not far from Carne beach and Carnsore Point. Inside it has an inviting feel, with lots of linked bar areas and chunky furniture; there's also plenty of space out front - if the weather is kind.
This gem is just the ticket if you want to indulge in the finest Barrow Bay oysters or Wexford mussels, but there's much more besides. The kitchen turns its hand to bowls of seafood chowder, baked crab Mornay, turbot with dill and fennel sauce, baked cod with a garlic and herb crust, as well as local Carne lobsters in season. There's also plenty for meat eaters in the shape of Clonakilty black pudding mousse with Calvados and apple sauce, steaks, rack of lamb and crispy roast duck. Appealing fish-friendly wines head the affordable list.
