Review on Londonderry Arms Hotel, Frances Anne Restaurant
Situated in the small coastal village of Carnlough, amid the picturesque Glens of Antrim, this historic hotel was built as a coaching inn for the Marchioness of Londonderry around 1848. It was later inherited by her grandson Sir Winston Churchill, who stayed in one of its executive suites. These days it's a popular hotel in the caring hands of long-term owners O'Neill family.
Formal meals are served in the Frances Anne Restaurant & Tapestry Room, which is done out in elegant traditional style with antique furniture, driftwood carvings and original Georgian fittings. By contrast, the kitchen takes a more modern approach, making excellent use of wild salmon, locally reared lamb from the Antrim Hills and other carefully sourced produce. Also don't miss the home-baked wheaten bread.
Simpler food is also available in the Coach House Bistro - think chicken Maryland, grilled liver and bacon or salmon fishcakes.
