Review on Victoria Hall Restaurant
What was once the Victoria Parochial Hall (circa 1887), has been radically transformed into a style-conscious restaurant with tiled floors, contemporary artwork and minimalist table settings. It's a suitably vibrant setting for creative cooking that blends influences from Thailand, Japan, China and Malaysia with ideas from France and the Mediterranean.
At lunchtime, the emphasis is on mixed combos, noodles and bento boxes with all manner of components including perhaps stuffed tofu with peanut sauce and teriyaki salmon with rice, vegetables and fruit.
The evening menu opens out dramatically with a colourful, eclectic choice of authentic specialities ranging from fillet of sea bass and king prawns with panang curry butter sauce or Asian-spiced marinated roast beef to grilled lamb loin with rosemary and roasted garlic sauce. Start with seafood tom yam soup and finish with banana fritters or chocolate fudge cake.
