Review on Builders Arms
Those with long memories might recall the Builders Arms as a back-street Chelsea boozer with a hard reputation: these days, however, it's as handsome and gentrified as you could wish for - despite the general hubbub. Inside it's all warm colour schemes, squidgy sofas, shelves of books and low table lamps, plus a modern menu of gastro pub grub at fair prices.
The food is self-styled 'modern British with a twist' - so you can expect things like mussels and shelled clams with a sauce of Magners cider, red onions and cream, mackerel and dill fishcakes with spicy tomato ketchup, slow-roast Kilvarock pork belly with walnut, celery and Cheddar-stuffed apples or homespun chicken and leek pie.
Most lunchtimes you can also get eggs Benedict, minute steak sandwiches and one or two other light dishes, while apple crumble or black grape pannacotta should satisfy those with a sweet tooth. Everything on the short wine list is available by the glass.
