Review on Geales - Chelsea

Following on from their success in Notting Hill Mark Fuller, Andy Taylor, John Garfield and Martin Davis have opened another branch of Geales in fashionable Chelsea Green. The restaurant features a maritime theme with porthole windows in the doors, navy and white gingham at the window with matching tablecloths, antique mirrors and pictures of fishermen and their ships adorning the pale grey walls.

Fish and chips is still the main focus with daily supplies from the West Country ensuring ultra-fresh cod, hake, haddock and more besides; the chips are hand-cut, the onion rings are fried in beef dripping, and the tartar sauce is homemade. Added to that are a few modern ideas like tempura soft-shell crabs, lobster spaghetti with tomato and basil or salmon and smoked haddock fishcakes. Nostalgia rules when it comes to desserts with an apple and blackberry crumble or bread and butter pudding served with Baileys custard. The food is supported by a well chosen global wine list with several options available by the glass.
