The Kong family has been in residence here for more than two decades and their reliable Chinese restaurant is something of a local insititution. It stands a stone's throw from Cheltenham' s shopping district and The Promenade and you can't miss its lavender-washed facade.

This is a place for all occasions and the long menu eschews anatomical curtiosities and exotica in favour of mainstream Cantonese, Peking and Szechuan dishes based on familiar ingredients. Typical offerings might include deep-fried crispy lamb with pancakes, stir-fried king prawns with cashews, and roast duck with ginger and pineapple. On Sundays there are 14-dish family buffet and the Mayflower's admirable 50-bin wine list is a cut above the local Chinese average.
