Review on High Road Brasserie
Nick Jones and the boys from the burgeoning Soho House group are behind this much-talked-about venture on Chiswick High Road. The whole set up is a mighty beast that spreads itself over a five-storey block, taking in a private member's club with its own facilities, a 14-bedroom hotel, spa and ground-floor brasserie complete with a terrace.
It's an easy-going kind of place, with antique mirrors on wooden walls, pewter-topped tables and a patchwork of Belgian tiles on the floor; it runs all day and it's child-friendly (kids have their own menu).
The food is similarly open-minded, so expect kippers and porridge for breakfast, all-purpose lunches and dinners ranging from crab cakes and merguez sausages to eggs Benedict, wild mushroom cassoulet and roast halibut with mussel and saffron broth. Traditional roasts flesh out the weekend brunch menu, while desserts span everything from pear crumble to chocolate fondant with milk ice cream. France is the main contender on the very creditable wine list.
