Review on Odessa Lounge & Grill
'Dublin's funkiest and most leisurely brunch party takes place at Odessa, where the atmosphere is fuelled by lively conversation and upbeat music.' That was IT Magazine's verdict on this quirky, ultra-fashionable hangout, which was one of the first to introduce weekend culinary bonanzas to Dublin back in the '90s.
It continues to attract crowds of arty twenty-somethings with its cool cosmopolitan atmosphere, funky paintings, seventies-style lighting and leather sofas. The food also tries to keep pace with the trends: beetroot tartare is served with goats' cheese and chive mousse, organic salmon comes with smoked haddock potato cake, asparagus and sauce vierge, while honey and cumin-glazed rump of lamb is partnered by tabbouleh, slow-roast vine tomatoes, harissa and tzatziki.
Nachos, quesadillas, burgers and pasta flesh out the repertoire, while desserts might range from chocolate mousse with a candied hazelnut crust and bitter orange sauce to upside-down fig pudding. Upstairs is the Odessa private members' club, which has its own movie-screening facilities.
