Review on Trocadero Restaurant
A prima donna among Dublin's restaurants, the 'Troc' has been putting on an inimitable show since 1956 and still plays to full houses. It's a showbiz hangout without equal in the city – an overtly glamorous, blissfully cosy rendezvous that oozes style with gold walls, heavy velvet drapes and gleaming mirrors. Light comes from decadent chandeliers, the walls are lined with 'headshots' of the stars and Tony Bennett tunes serenade the punters.
The atmosphere is magical and the food is perfectly tuned to proceedings. Pre-theatre deals (5.00 – 7.00pm) bring in crowds of culture vultures, and the full menu is an endearing retro mix of avocado salad with crayfish, grilled Dover sole and roast rack of lamb tweaked with a few more modern inventions such as Jerusalem artichoke risotto, scallops with smoked bacon on Savoy cabbage, or poached breast of chicken with coconut, lime and coriander sauce. To bring the curtain down, try chocolate and Baileys slice or apple strudel.
