Review on The Westin Dublin, Moorland Grill
Reconstructed from three Victorian landmark buildings (including the former Allied Irish Bank), the Westin is a consummately run, pedigree hotel overlooking Trinity College right in the heart of the city. Polished marble pillars set the tone in the luxurious foyer, while the stunning banking hall now does duty as the hotel's main banqueting and conference room.
Fine dining takes place in the elegant Morelands Grill, a chic and contemporary urban restaurant centrally located on Westmoreland Street and on the new cross-city Luas line. The kitchen works to a modern menu with the Josper grill taking centre stage. Typically you might choose to start with the slow cooked duck confit and potato gnocchi served with wilted baby spinach, lemon and parmesan cream or from the sea pan seared king scallops, lobster risotto, sea rosemary and aged parmesan. Main courses bring on board Irish beef fillet cooked on the Josper grill or for fish fans there's grilled organic Clare Island salmon, champ, grilles asparagus, tomato and brown shrimp cream sauce. Indulgent desserts close the show with Glastry farm honeycomb ice-cream, crushed cookies, chocolate fudge sauce and maple pecans or chocolate brownie baked cheesecake served with butterscotch and clotted cream.
Elsewhere, the Atrium Lounge is a peaceful haven with its five-storey glass ceiling, palm trees and balconies where you can sit beneath the stars. It's a restful alternative to the big-city throb of the Mint Bar in the old bank vaults.
