Review on Hotel du Vin & Bistro
Situated in the heart of the Old Town, a short walk from the historic Royal Mile, Hotel du Vin & Bistro's Edinburgh branch of this award winning group is set in a former asylum. The venue has been given the classic HDV style makeover with an elegant and contemporary décor, with the bistro featuring reclaimed dark-stained floorboards, restored fireplace and comfy leather seating. As well as al fresco dining during summer months, there is also a lively mezzanine bar overlooking the restaurant, together with several rooms available for private dining.
The menu, including daily specials features classic French bistro fare with a contemporary edge, using fresh first-class locally sourced organic ingredients where possible. Look for fillet of beef carpaccio with watercress and parmesan salad served with horseradish dressing or smoked haddock and leek gougère amongst the starters. For a main course you could choose a classic Hotel du Vin Cassoulet, haricot blancs, Toulouse sausage and confit duck or maybe the half lobster thermidor. To finish there are desserts such as raspberry and Manzanilla sherry trifle or hot chocolate fondant paired with hazelnut ice cream.
In line with all Hotel du Vin bistros there is an outstanding wine list to complement the menu, with an expert Sommelier on hand to guide you through the selections. This boutique hotel features 47 delightful rooms should you wish to extend your stay and visit some of the nearby attractions.
