Review on Iggs
Ignacio Campos was determined to inject some Mediterranean warmth in this part of Auld Reekie when he opened Iggs in the Old Town. Fun may be the name of the game, but the kitchen takes its work seriously, offering an exciting fusion of Scottish produce with a forthright Mediterranean and Iberian accent – especially when it comes to seafood.
Char-grilled loin of tuna served with a cassoulet of mixed beans, jamón and peas or seared prawns on pak choi greens with chilli dressing, garlic oil and caramelised lime are the sort of dishes to expect. Open your account with salmon tartare and a shot of gazpacho, then bring the down the curtain with espresso Catalan cream and pistachio galetta. The fabulous Spanish wine list must rank as the most comprehensive of its type in Scotland, and much of it is personally selected by the man himself.
Back in 1999, 'Iggy' also added an extra touch of Spanish sunshine to proceedings by opening Barioja – a heel-clicking, foot-stomping all-day tapas bar right next door to the restaurant.
