Review on Nargile
Nargile is a relaxed, friendly and unpretentious Turkish restaurant in the centre of Edinburgh. Simple decor (note the Byzantine-themed murals) and cheery staff add to the mood of the place, and the menu is an authentic run through the staples of the cuisine with some innovative add-ons.
Hot and cold mezze kick off the show - anything from hummus with chopped lamb to slices of Turkish sucuk sausage or dana sogus (char-grilled strips of marinated steak in a spicy lemon and coriander dressing). Mains include the usual char-grills and skewers, plus less familiar dishes such as tavuk dolmasi (char-grilled chicken fillets stuffed with crab on lemon and caper sauce) or firinda karides (king prawns in tomato and herb sauce topped with feta cheese).
A simple menu of mezze and light bites is also available at lunchtime, and it's also worth checking out the good-value, fixed-price supper menu, which is perfect for a pre-theatre fill-up. A clutch of gutsy Turkish tipples show up alongside a big French contingent on the wine list.
