Restaurant 21212 opened in May 2009 in the city of Edinburgh, the latest venture from Michelin starred Paul Kitching, whose previous restaurant Juniper in Altrincham was the recipient of many awards and plaudits. He and his partner Katie have set up in a four story listed Georgian townhouse which they have carefully restored to its former glory, retaining many of the period features, but transforming the place into a twenty-first century environmentally friendly restaurant. The sumptuous dining room is very elegant with its corniced ceiling and large glittering chandelier, sweeping banquettes and beige suede quirky styled chairs are set against well laid tables on a brown carpet with giant golden butterflies. There is a luxurious drawing room on the first floor for pre-dinner aperitifs, offering diners fine views across the Royal Terrace and its gardens from the large Georgian windows.
The restaurant's name 21212, reflects the number of dishes for each course of Kitching's innovative modern French cuisine, where ingredients are meticulously selected, with every dish marrying flavour and colour in perfect harmony. Open your account with pink trout and creamy gruyere cheese risotto followed by a main of tender best end of lamb, spicy melon and sweet potato, pease pudding, barley, lentils, smoked bacon, potato crisps, pistachio nuts, green gordal olives, pink peppercorns, lettuce and rosemary cream. As a finale indulge in a delectable Summer classical trifle with red berries, peaches, bananas, layered with vanilla sponge white chocolate Anglaise, praline, malted milk and cinnamon sauce and Bristol cream sherry syrup or a crispy baked egg custard. There is an impressive wine list knowledgeably garnered from all corners of the world to compliment this pitch perfect cuisine.
