Review on Wedgwood the Restaurant
When Paul Wedgwood and Lisa Channon started planning their restaurant some years ago the driving force was to create a place that would provide the 'Perfect Night Out'. A fine dining venue in a friendly relaxed environment without the pretentiousness sometimes found in other restaurants. The feedback that we are getting from Mobile Food Guide users is that they have certainly achieved this by the bucket load.
Wedgwood learnt his craft in a variety of establishments but was most inspired by celebrity chef John Tovey whilst working at Miller Howe in Windermere. There is a strong emphasis on sourcing ingredients locally and the menu is adapted daily according to the availability of supplies, although it has a complete overhaul four times a year to follow the seasons. Foraged foods put in a regular appearance on the menu, courtesy of Zoologist and Forager Ben Robertson who goes in search of these interesting and often unusual sustainable herbs and other foods that appear frequently in the dishes.
The wine list like the menu changes with the seasons, lighter, crisper wines match the lighter more delicate dishes in the summer, whereas the winter wines are richer and stronger characters to complement the heartier cuisine. New World wines feature strongly and a good selection of half bottles are available as well as some personal favourites from Paul's private cellar collection.
