Review on Zucca Café & Restaurant
A new show has come to town in the shape of this contemporary Italian restaurant on the mezzanine floor of the famous Royal Lyceum Theatre. Advertising posters from years gone by adorn the walls of the relaxed dining room.
Chef Richard Glennie made his name at Santini, and he specialises in creative dishes based on Scottish produce together with carefully sourced Italian imports. Typical starters on his menu might include Parma ham with figs, honey and purple basil or pumpkin and Ricotta ravioli with sage butter and Amaretti biscuit, while main courses could range from seared tuna with sweet-and-sour aubergine, red onion salsa and gremolata to braised shoulder of lamb with pancetta, onions and red wine.
Vanilla pannacotta with caramelised peaches is an appealing dessert and the wine list is peppered with decent Italian bottles. Below the restaurant - on the ground floor - is a buzzy all-day café for meetings, chats and snacks.
