Review on La Parmigiana
Sandro Giovanazzi's long-serving and thoroughly dependable trattoria has been doing the citizens of Glasgow proud since opening in 1978. Many of his customers are fiercely loyal regulars and most are on first-name terms with the man himself.
The strengths of the place are its atmosphere, ebullient personable service and dedication to genuine Italian ingredients and recipes. Here is a kitchen that can deliver lobster ravioli with basil cream, as well as a top-drawer risotto infused with Italian black truffles, Parmesan and cream.
Scottish produce also makes its presence felt in the shape of, say, char-grilled scallops with lemon and olive oil, venison with a ragù of porcini mushrooms and Italian sausage on a polenta croûton or fillet of salmon with balsamic vinegar sauce and courgettes.
As for desserts, expect anything from lemon tart with cherries to pears poached in Vin Santo. The wine list is 100% Italian – apart from some bottles of fizz. Sandro Giovanazzi also owns The Big Blue next door.
