Review on Wee Lochan
This lively bistro-style restaurant is a spin-off from the McKie family's high-flying hotel in Tighnabruaich by the Kyles of Bute, and it aims to bring simple seafood and more besides to Glasgow's city crowd.
Daughter Claire runs the kitchen, and her cooking takes its cue from the excellent produce provided by trusted suppliers based around the family's Argyll flagship. Menus depend on the catch and the seasons, but you can expect gloriously fresh seafood platters, 'plates of mixed fish' with pak choi and hollandaise, whole sea bass with saffron butter, braised fennel and red peppers, and more besides.
Meat fans might be treated to smoked venison (courtesy of Winston Churchill), fillet of Buccleuch beef with whisky butter or confit of duck with Puy lentils, while desserts often feature raspberry cranachan and saffron poached pears with crème fraîche. Light lunches, daytime tapas and theatre meals also keep the customers satisfied. The McKie family recently opened a third branch of An Lochan in Tormaukin, Perthshire.
