Review on Catch & Champagne Bar
Following the takeover of the old Great Eastern Hotel by the Hyatt Group and its re-launch as ANdAZ London, what was the Fishmarket restaurant is now called Catch - although its business is much as before. A sumptuous display of crustacea is the focal point of the elegantly restored dining room (think stained glass windows and wood-panelled walls), and the menu makes much of the healthy versatility of fish without going overboard. As well as sampling various kinds of oysters, you can splash out on a pot of caviar with blinis and crème fraîche if you are feeling flush.
Elsewhere, the choice runs from potted shrimps and dressed crab to roast turbot with spring vegetables and fennel cream, seared escalope of salmon with spiced tomato dressing and – for vegetarians – roast pumpkin risotto. To finish, choose tarte Tatin with Calvados crème fraîche or cheese.
Next door, you will find a dramatic horseshoe-shaped Champagne Bar clad in aquamarine and silver mosaic. This is open all day (until 1.00am) Monday to Friday, with the bonus of live music on Saturday evenings.
