Review on Hawksmoor Guildhall
Will Beckett and Huw Gott have opened their third critically acclaimed steakhouse restaurant Hawksmoor Guildhall in the heart of the city. Designed by award winning architects Macaulay Sinclair, it is very similar in style to its sibling Seven Dials, with a staircase down to the bar which leads into the huge dining room. The décor is designed to reflect the heritage and tradition of the City and has been created with the use or salvaged materials, glazed bricks from the Underground and wood panelling from a Bond street store. Dark green leather chairs are set against wood tables, with art decor light fittings on the raised octagon designed ceiling.
The meat for their succulent steaks is sourced from Longhorn cattle traditionally reared in North Yorkshire by multi-award winners The Ginger Pig. They are dry-aged hung for at least 35 days and cooked on a real charcoal grill. Look for starters of potted Longhorn beef and plum pudding bacon or Hawksmoor smoked salmon with Liam's soda bread. To follow choose one of their favourite cuts such as bone-in-prime rib, Porterhouse or Chateaubriand and if you give them 48 hours notice, they will get you any cut of steak you fancy. If you still have room after these meaty feasts there are plenty of tasty desserts to choose from such as Trinity burnt cream or sticky toffee sundae. Unlike its siblings Hawksmoor Guildhall is open for breakfast where you can enjoy such delights as devilled veal kidneys on toast, omelette Arnold Bennett, Manx kipper and poached egg or the 250g rib-eye, fried eggs and hash browns
There is an excellent range of heritage cocktails as well as an extensive wine list stored in their walk-in wine room.
