Review on Imperial City
A stunning location in the 400-year-old vaults of the Royal Exchange building is just one reason why Imperial City is a premier destination for functions, weddings and corporate events: it can seat up to 200 people in grand, highly atmospheric surroundings.
The interior is divided up into two arched dining areas surrounded by fish tanks; an ornamental rockery complete with a waterfall, plus bonsai trees, a dragon-painted air-conditioning duct and clued-up, colourfully attired staff add to the exotic mood on the place.
Oriental culinary guru Ken Hom acts as consultant chef and the cooking takes a broad, eclectic view of Chinese regional cuisine - adding influences from the West and other corners of the Orient for an inviting menu. Typical offerings might include pan-fried black cod with Empress pesto, Imperial-style osso buco with Shanghai noodles, and crocodile with broccoli and cashews, as well as Cantonese crab and prawn toasts, crispy shedded chilli beef and Peking-style squab with wild strawberries.
Desserts range from lotus pancakes and tropical fruit platters to mango and toffee cheesecake, and the drinks list provides plenty of choice to match the food.
