Review on Murrays
Murrays of Clevedon was established in 1984, not only is it an excellent delicatessen, but there is a splendid restaurant attached as well. The family run business has expanded from those early days when it started as a small tea shop, to the impressive enterprise it is today. John and his son Luke are in charge of the deli, which is a virtual treasure chest of artisan products from Italy and England, together with an eclectic portfolio of Italian wines sourced from small producers.
His wife Gail and two sons Alex and Reuben are responsible for the cooking in the restaurant, where Italian influences are evident in their repertoire. The kitchen makes good use of the wine and ingredients available in their shop, together with local meats, game and vegetables, with fish from Cornwall. Among the starters you might choose chicken and artichoke rillette terrine with candied mustard fruits or the selection of Italian charcuterie and marinated vegetables. Mains take in a hearty Somerset beef shin braised with red wine, leek and cabbage bubble and squeak or tomato brodetto of red and grey mullet, lemon sole and langoustine with crostini and there is a great range of pizzas on offer as well. To finish, there are tempting desserts, layered hazelnut meringue and chocolate mousse cake with a clementine sauce or caramelised apple and amaretti tart with clotted cream ice cream, together with a fantastic selection of cheeses. Service is warm and attentive and it's a very popular destination.
