Review on Avon Gorge Hotel, Bridge Café
'A real experience like nothing else I've found in Bristol,' enthused one Mobile Food Guide user about this strikingly situated hotel with a vast all-weather private terrace overlooking the Avon Gorge and Clifton's Grade I-listed Suspension Bridge.
In addition to fantastic panoramic views, the Avon Gorge Hotel also boasts the splendid, stylishly decorated Bridge Café, which is going great guns under new chef Debby Leatt. She has devised a 'great new menu' that moves from excellent-value fixed-priced lunches (crab and avocado tian followed by confit belly pork with braised red cabbage and mash, say) to more ambitious evening meals.
Starters might offer anything from plates of antipasti to seared West Country scallops with shallot tarte Tatin, black pudding and beurre blanc, while main courses could promise whole Cornish plaice with caper butter and sprouting pea salad or free-range duck breast with roast potatoes and pomegranate dressing. Finish off with rum and cherry trifle or passion fruit crème brûlée. Casual light meals and drinks are also served throughout the day in the White Lion Bar (as well as on the terrace).
