Review on Fishers Restaurant
The younger sister of Fishers Restaurant in Oxford occupies a prime site just around the corner from Avon Gorge and the world-famous Clifton Suspension Bridge.
'Fishers is a supporter of the RNLI and of sustainable fishing' says a note on the menu; supplies arrive daily from markets around the UK and the kitchen caters for just about every palate or preference. Daily specials could include such things as pan-fried scallops with basil cream sauce or whole baby turbot poached with braised fennel and dill.
The regular menu also features a varied assortment of 'traditional' dishes including grilled sardines with lemon and parsley butter, haddock and chips, and - for meat eaters - duck breast with green Thai curry and fragrant rice. Desserts are simple offerings like crème brûlée or banana fritters, and the wine list includes plenty of fish-friendly whites.
At lunchtime (Tue-Sun) you can get two courses for around £7.50; there's also an early-evening supper deal for two people, including a bottle of house wine (6-7pm).
