Review on Sha-Roe Bistro
A fastidiously preserved Georgian townhouse no more than a stone's throw from historic Huntington Castle is the setting for this much-talked-about arrival on the local restaurant scene. The restaurant occupies what was the original drawing room, and most of its original features have been left intact including fine paintings and a mighty stone fireplace.
Chef/co-proprietor Henry Stone made his name at Marlfield House, Gorey and he brings talent and expertise in abundance to this intimate new venture. The food here is sharp, modern, seasonal and exciting: it inhabits the world of duck spring rolls (accompanied by guacamole and a lightly cooked plum), fillet of hake with parsnip cream, and organic sweetcorn risotto with baby spinach.
Beef is matured for seven weeks before it is shown the pan, while desserts could embrace treacle and macadamia nut tart or a gratin of summer fruits served with homemade elderflower cordial. The wine list is concise and on-the-button.
